Blizzard Entertainment released The Burning Crusade, their highly anticipated expansion to their hugely popular MMORPG title World of Warcraft just a few days ago. Some friends of mine couldn’t think of anything else but this in the days preceding the release. Some had prepaid for the game, awaiting midnight January 16th with almost unbearable excitement. This was a huge deal to the 8 million WOW players everywhere. This was supposed to be the rebirth of their addiction.

Noone expected what actually happened though. Gullerbone, 24, a hardcore World of Warcraft player from France reached level 70, the games highest level within 28 hours of its release. He is believed to be the first in the world.

In preparation Gullerbone went to bed at 2pm the preceding day and awoke at 10pm with only one intention. He reached level 70 with a mage class character called Gawell and told how he had help from 40 in-game friends working with him from start to finish.

Gullerbone said: “Cau (the 1st European lvl 60) and I planned the exp(erience) route step by step, trying everything to make sure it was the most appropriate, the groups organization with the guild Millenium and their members. Each member rotated using a definite order to help me to grind on mobs, mostly with AE, surrounded with several guildmate healers, tanks, pullers etc…”

Referring to his friends who helped him, he said: “Well at first we had only five (during the first 10 hours or so) so that 10 of the members could get to lvl 62. Then in the morning we were 15 in order to kill the mobs at a faster rate. Finally in the evening, everyone was involved and we could gather a 35 man raid to help me in Netherstorm with our new lvl 62 doing most of the job.”
