Using a full range of appliances in his house, Michael Strizki from New Jersey, USA runs his house without spending a cent.

His home is the first in the US to demonstrate that a combination of solar and hydrogen power can generate all the electricity needed to run a home.

Michael Strizki runs his 3,000-square-foot house with electricity generated by a 1,000-square-foot roof full of photovoltaic cells on a nearby building, an electrolyzer that uses the solar power to generate hydrogen from water, and a number of hydrogen tanks that store the gas until it is needed by the fuel cell. In the summer, the solar panels generate an energy excess of 60% which it stores as hydrogen. It then uses that excess in Winter. Strizki also powers his fuel driven car with this hydrogen, which like his house, is totally polution free.

It may take some time to catch on, and until it does a house like this is going to cost you a small fortune. Having said that, surely this is the future we need to aim for to save our planet.

There is a solution! I recently learned of a company that has figured out how to get Clean, Safe, Affordable Solar Power to the masses, and they do it without requiring any significant investment on the part of the homeowner. This company is helping homeowners switch to solar the easy way through a leasing agreement. The customer gets a worry free solar system custom designed for 100% of their current consumption of electricity & an electric rate that is frozen at or below today’s rate for up to 25 years. We can make a Difference. Lets do something, we can be part of the solution and not be part of the problem. This program is an easy way that you can have an impact on the environment and our pocket book. It makes cents and save dollars. I’m all for cleaning the enviroment.

well 2renu, I’ll be moving from Ireland to Mexico in a few years. I will certainly look into there. I don’t quite think we have the weather for it in Ireland unfortunately.

Dardoz, I think you’re wrong. One of the common misconceptions about solar power is that it requires direct sunlight, whereas it only needs daylight to generate electricity :)

Obviously you’ll have an easier time in Mexico, but Ireland has more than enough daylight to power a similar device.
