Rafik “Lost Cauze” Bryant has signed a $100,000 contract with Able Planet to be the face of their new headphone range. Specifically, his face will adorn the packaging of three of their products: the $49.99 Clear Harmony cans, $79.99 Clear Harmony complete with microphone, and $149.99 Sound Clarity noise canceling headphones.
This is another stepping stone esports has taken towards allowing people to undertake gaming as a viable profession. Just last year MLG (Major League Gaming) signed a 4 man Halo 2 team for a cool $1 Million contract. Not only this, rumours are abound that the newly formed DirecTV Championship Gaming Invitational in the US are setting a new standard by buying the contracts for 40 players and introducing a draft pick similar to that used in the NFL (American Football) which will allow various franchises to buy the player contracts and give them huge salaries. DirecTV is the largest supplier of digital tv in the US and will broadcast games live on TV to over 100 million homes.
The time has come it seems where the passtime I have loved for so long is becoming a viable career for young gaming enthusiasts.
