Google have signed agreements with Yahoo and Microsoft for all three to use the same web indexing tool, google sitemaps, to make life easier for webmasters everywhere.

Google have described google sitemaps as: “This collaborative crawling system will allow our crawlers to optimize the usefulness of Google’s index for users by improving its coverage and freshness,”

The tool enables users to feed their pages to the search spiders one by one telling the spiders where they need to go. It also allows the user to specify how important each page so that search engine spiders can determine which pages are the most important.
