My work
I’ve been doing web design for quite a few years now so I thought I’d share a little with my regulars. I’ve added some examples of my work for anyone who is interested. The link is way up there at the top right of the page…

Google themes now available
Google have finally gone and gotten themselves a web designer. Now you can choose from a variety of themes for your google homepage to take away that bare white look. There are as yet 7 themes you can choose from including the original. most are quite well thought out although I found some of them lacked the contrast that the original had making picking out relevant news stories such a breeze. I eventually settled on the ‘bus stop’ theme despite this.
The first cool thing about is that it changes to coincide with the weather conditions and time in your local area. Well! If you live in the US it does.
I think I’m the guy in the red tracksuit…but trying to become the guy in the suit beside him…haha!
I’ve found a rather useful page detailing the different states for each theme.

Cheap Irish shop for memory sticks
A friend of mine told me about this irish online retailer recently and considering how cheap they are it would be a crime not to share with you all. They are based in Cellbridge in Co. Kildare and are called Memory Configurator. A bit of a mouthfull but with prices like these, who cares.

Google mobile phone anyone?
Rumours are abound that google is dipping its sticky fingers into the mobile phone market with a google mobile set for retail.
They have recently filed for a patent on predictive mobile location-based search technology. A BlackBerry-like gadget is apparently in the pipeline that may be Google-made or run a Google OS. At the very least I would expect to see it optimised for gmail. There are also recent reports of a partnership between operator Orange and Google with a view to producing a branded device.
Conspiracy theorists should have a field day as further evidence begins to gather.
Ireland tops the polls once again as Europe’s drunkest nation
->
According to a recent survey conducted throughout Europe, Ireland has the highest rate of binge-drinking in the European Union. Not really a surprise, but good to see us finishing top of something again :p
According to the survey 1 in 3 of Irish people binge drink regularly although I should stress that their interpretation of binge drinking is more than 4 drinks in a night.
With the Irish consistantly finishing top of these sort of polls, you would think they would rewrite the rulebooks for us. I mean, surely drinking more than anyone else means our bodies can drink more on average before we are considered to be binge drinking.
Hicks & Gillett unveil increased ambition for Stanley Park Stadium
Liverpool’s new owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett have suspended work on their proposed new stadium and ordered a review of the plans. The duo are thought to be examining ways in which they can increase the planned capacity for the new stadium.
The new stadium had received planning to capacitate 60,000 in Stanley Park with 2009 as the target opening date. However, if Hicks & Gillett want to make drastic changes, they willl have to resubmit for planning permission which could push back the opening date.
Personally, as a lifelong Liverpool supporter I am delighted to hear this. I was disappointed to hear that we were going to move away from Anfield for a mere 60,000 seater stadium. When some of Europes elite already play weekly in 80,000+ seaters, the plans for Stanley Park looked a little lacking in ambition.
Hicks added: “We have our own people lined up to see if, within the confines of the plans, there are any other ideas that would be good for the fans.”
Adam Keane gets away with rape
Well, he might as well have.
Yesterday, Adam Keane, a bricklayer from Barnageeha, Daragh in Clare was convicted of raping Mary Shannon yet was only given a 3 year suspended sentence. 20 year old Keane was convicted at the Central Criminal Court.
His defence relied on the fact that he was drunk and on ecstasy at the time of the crime so apparently that makes it ok. I am disgusted! How can they say just because someone is drunk and on drugs that he shouldn’t go straight to prison for an act like this.
Mary Shannon today went public, waiving her right for anonymity to plead with the Director of Public Prosecutions to appeal the three-year suspended sentence handed down to Keane. She has also been appearing in live interviews on the news throughout the day. I have to admire her courage and I can only hope her misfortune leads to more severe sentencing for crimes such as this.
